Music Programs
Our music program began to take shape in the 1940’s and has always included choirs for adults and children singing or ringing handbells. Worship is led by organ music, inspiring lively hymn singing for all to lift their voices in praise to God. Special programs, especially our Congregational Concerts, extend our music ministry into the City of Columbus. All rehearsals are held in the second floor of the parish house in one of the choir rooms.
Adult Choir
First Church Choir sings at the 11:00 service each Sunday from September to June. Rehearsals are held each Thursday, 7:30-9:30 p.m. , and on Sunday morning from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. The choir sings from the gallery or the chancel, depending on the service of the day. Professional section leaders help the learning process as we explore five centuries of great choral music.
Treble Choir
The Treble Choir is for boys and girls in grades 1-8 who like to sing. The choirs are team led, and lively rehearsals couple rudiments of music education with choir training in hymns and anthems. The teaching process is occasionally divided to be age appropriate.
The First Church Ringers began in the 1950’s as a high school bell choir. Ringers with some musical experience in grades 7-12 are welcome. Rehearsals are held Sundays from 12:15 to 1:00 p.m. in the second floor rehearsal room of the Parish House. Watch the First Church News and the website for an up-to-date rehearsal schedule.
The Chancel Ringers, our adult handbell players, rehearse Thursdays 6: 15 - 7:15 p.m. and play for worship six times annually. The membership is flexible based on season: we rehearse for 4 weeks, then break for a week or two, resuming with some personnel changes based on people’s schedules. Membership is open to those with some music reading ability. Experience as an instrumentalist can be helpful.
